So it’s been awhile since I’ve updated the tiny detective’s blog. Things have been very busy and the kittens have been growing like, well, kittens. They’re now 11 weeks old and just a week and a half away from being ready to go to forever homes! Monk looks like he’s already found his with a wonderful family who’s adopted several dogs and a cat from IAR in the past. We wish him the best of luck! If you’re in the market for a kitten, why not consider Clouseau and Sherlock?

Recently I’ve been doing some website maintenance for IAR. I sat down to write out the terms of the contract, but Clouseau thought he should get to help!

So Clouseau sometimes gets ‘special privileges’ because he’s so cute and fluffy. In an effort to balance that out, Sherlock is sitting with me while I type. One of Clouseau’s privileges was to come down and watch some TV with us one night. My husband was playing a video game for the Wii called ‘Boom Blox’ where you try to knock down colored blocks by throwing balls with the Wiimote while colorful block-shaped animals cheer you on. Clouseau was absolutely fascinated, though the first time the surround sound gave off an explosion he got a little nervous. Once he figured out that it wasn’t a kitten monster preparing to eat him, he settled in on my chest for some serious video game watching. Hope somebody applies for Clouseau soon so I can stop noticing how well he fits in around here!

Meet Clouseau

Inspector Clouseau’s always ready to go! Clouseau (pronounced Clu-so) was originally named because he wasn’t very coordinated when it came time to eating. Considering he wasn’t supposed to even be able to drink from a bowl at the time, we couldn’t hold it against him. When you’ve got that much fur and you’re trying to drink milk replacement out of a bowl, well, messes happen.

Clouseau is a people-lover and has been ever since the beginning. The first night I had them out of the shelter all three kittens were curled up in a blanket in my arms after getting their first good meal in a long time. Clouseau actually crawled out of the blanket, away from his brothers, and curled up in the nook of my arm instead. One, two, three… “Awww”. Since then he’s continued his people loving ways. When you sit down to play with them Clouseau is right in your lap and puts his paws on your shoulder to get his face as close as possible for some hard-core head nuzzling. With his soft, fluffy coat he’s impossible to resist. He’s an equal-opportunity toy player-with, but prefers toys that are as fuzzy as he is. He’s also a fan of playing with his fuzzy Uncle Tux, ignoring the 10 pound weight difference.

Meet Monk

If you’ve ever been around tiny kittens, you know that “neat” isn’t generally a word that gets applied to them very often. When 4-week old Monk started grooming himself after every bottle, well, we knew which detective he was going to be! As he got older it became more obvious that other than an obsession with cleanliness kitten Monk didn’t have much in common with OCD Monk, but when my sister pointed out the big, giant “M” on his forehead we had to leave him named Monk.

Monk may be a neat freak, but he’s also the most adventurous of the detectives. He gives everything a very thorough investigation and trust me, he is not afraid of heights! Monk’s incredibly coordinated for a little kitten and can manage impressive acrobatics and pull-ups to reach the best perch. If there’s no cat tree handy that’s ok, he’ll just claim your shoulder! He’s always right at our feet reaching up to say hi with his distinctive “mew!” when we get home.

Meet Sherlock

Sherlock is the tiniest of the tinies. At 7 weeks he weighed just 1 pound. If you’re interested in a snuggly underdog who’s willing to beat the odds with you, Sherlock’s your boy. As the smallest of three brothers, Sherlock needed some extra TLC when he arrived. With some extra effort to make sure he got his fair share of the food, however, he’s made huge strides. The extra bottle-feedings left only one permanent affect on him, a love of people. Often times when his bigger brothers are running around, Sherlock will come curl up in your lap and watch the action with you. But don’t think he needs coddling; he’s more than capable of bossing around his bigger brothers and holding his own with his 2yo foster “Uncle” when necessary. Sherlock’s the most intellectual of the detectives, examining everything from every angle before diving into the fun.

Tiny Detectives

Spring is in the air and that means that kittens are underfoot. Kitten season seems to have started a little later this year, but there are still more kittens in need than IAR can handle. These three little tinies are among the lucky ones! While setting up a friend and new foster with her new kittens, I found out about three 4-week old kittens stuck at the shelter with no mother. The shelter wasn’t able to afford kitten milk for them and so I quickly agreed to take them in. Luckily they were at the shelter for less than a week before I got them. These guys may just be my favorite set of fosters yet as they’re incredibly tiny and their extensive socialization has led to them being incredibly sweet and cuddly. They’re now approaching 8 weeks and will soon be in the market for a new home.
